This Sewing Box is dedicated to Abigail Adams, wife, and closest advisor of John Adams, the second president of the United States, and the mother of John Quincy Adams, the sixth president of the United States.
The embroidered motifs were, inspired by an original antique sampler in my collection.
The wooden box is outside lined with an embroidered linen band mounted over padded backing board panels. The inside bottom of the box is lined in light blue finishing fabric mounted over a padded Skirtex panel. Three sewing accessories complete the box. A needlebook with ecru wool felt pages with its sides finished in Nun’s Stitch, closed with a ribbon bow. The scissors fob has a lovely tassel made with DMC cotton threads. The strawberry pincushion, also embroidered with the motifs of the box band, is finished at the top with light blue felt and ruffled light blue ribbon.
The stitches: cross stitch over two and Nun’s Stitch.
Kit includes: Wooden box, all stitching and finishing materials: six stranded cotton flosses from DMC (three solid colors and two Variations colors), 32 Count hand dyed linen fabric from Weeks Dye Works, ribbon, fiberfill, white batting, ecru and light blue wool felt, finishing fabric, Skirtex and backing board panels. Stitching and finishing instructions, as well as information about the amazing story of Abigail Adams will be included.
Please bring to class general stitching supplies, plus magnification and extra lighting, if needed.
