I love strawberries and their unique shape lends itself to be defined in many stitches of embroidery. I’ve chosen Crosses, Double Crosses, Queens, Half Queens, Flat (Satin), Back, Colonial Knots, Needle Weaving and 2 Pulled Thread Stitches named Satin Stitch Variation and Cobblestone Stitch Filling to work this “strawberry red” sampler. “Doubtless God could have made a better berry, but doubtless God never did…,” a quote from Dr. Boteler, aptly sums up my long-time love affair with this wonderful fruit. A brief history of the strawberry will also be included. (I have chosen 36-count linen to work on but students may bring their favorite count as a replacement. Stitch Count is 99 stitches wide by 80 stitches high. Add 3-inches to each measurement for framing/finishing.)
Kit includes: Linen fabric, 6 skeins of DMC threads, #80 Special Dentelles thread, #24 and #26 tapestry needles, needle threader, charting of design, instructions with stitch diagrams, washing instructions and a colored photo. A brief history of the strawberry will also be included.
Please bring to class the usual stitching supplies, along with a 4 or 5-inch hoop (if used), embroidery scissors, pencil, and extra lighting and magnification if needed.
