17th century band samplers are a “school-house” for learning stitches and techniques of the period. The petit-size of the August Sampler teaches 16 stitches providing an introduction to this golden-age of sampler making. Nine vibrant shades of DMC threads are used to embroider flower bands with reds, blues and greens predominating. Although kitted with 36-count linen, student is free to supply their own favorite count of linen. Stitch count is 57-stitches wide by 140-stitches high; add 6-inches to each measurement for framing/finishing purposes. My repeat students know I love to share my knowledge of samplers so be sure to bring a pencil for note taking!
Kit includes: Linen fabric, 9 skeins of DMC threads, #24 and #26 tapestry needles, needle threader, charting of design, 10-pages of instructions with stitch diagrams and stitching hints, washing instructions, 3-page bibliography of samplers and sampler making and a colored photo.
Please bring to class the usual stitching supplies, along with a 4 or 5-inch hoop (if used), embroidery scissors, pencil, and extra lighting and magnification if needed.
