Forget Me Nots In Stitches

Lauren was raised on Cleveland's "West Side" where her paternal Great Aunt taught Lauren and her sister how to embroider. She remembers beginning on stamped Tea Towels at around age 7, and has been embroidering ever since. Her formal education was completed at Jane Addams Vocational High School where her focus was on fashion design/illustration and dressmaking/tailoring! She also attended Cleveland's Institute of Art during her summers. Upon her graduation from High School she won an Eva's Wingert Scholarship to the Fashion Institute of Technology, majoring in journalism and fashion communications. After graduating in 1966, Lauren returned to Cleveland to work at the May Co. as an assistant buyer of girl's pre-teen clothing.

She began designing Counted Cross Stitch in 1978, in 1985 opened a shop offering classes and has since been teaching throughout the USA and abroad. Although Lauren no longer has a shop she continues to teach at local EGA, Specialty Shops, and Special Event Weekends such as Celebration, Sampler Gathering, and Just Cross Stitch Williamsburg. She has also been featured in Fine Lines, Early American Life, and Just Cross Stitch. We are honored to have Lauren as one of our teachers.

Teacher: Lauren Sauer
Max: 24 students (Min: 8 students)
Level: Intermediate
Description: Exclusive Teaching Piece

Price: $175.00
Scheduled: Friday 1:00pm - 4:45pm

Without a doubt, Louisa May Alcott's Little Women is Lauren's most favorite book. In her lifetime she has read it two dozen times. It still speaks to her and she finds lessons to be learned and taken to heart. It has inspired this sampler and smalls and the designs will premier at Celebration. All projects are stitched on off white Northern Cross linen using a variety of Gentle Art fibers. The "Stay" sampler (3" x 8"), Amy's Fancy Fob, Jo's Journal/ needlebook, Beth's lavender-filled sachet, Meg's pin cushion and Marmee's bag vary in size and some are inspired by quilt blocks. Most take very little time to embroider and assemble. The March sisters' smalls are tucked inside Hannah's market basket (available separately while supplies last).

Kit includes: Chart, diagram, linen, threads, needles, lavender buds, ribbons and most finishing materials. (Scrimshaw must be ordered separately, Lauren will have order sheet available.)

Class #304
The Red Rabbit Needlebook

Teacher: Lauren Sauer
Max: 24 students (Min: 8 students)
Level: Intermediate
Description:

Price: $215.00
Scheduled: Saturday 9:00am - 1:45pm

Inspiration for this colorful and useful project comes from a collection of 18th C Scottish samplers embroidered by three members of the same family. The one that appealed to Lauren the most was small and unfinished and stitched in red and purple instead of the traditional red and green. Belfast sand is the ground linen and the vibrantly colored threads are Sampler, Simply Shaker and Simply Wool from the Gentle Art. The needlebook will measure 5 1/4" x 5 1/2" and features four side loading pockets on the inside which will hold individual packages of needles and a pair of scissors (these are not included in your kit). Familiar embroidery stitches are used with the addition of a colorful and useful Florentine or Flame Stitch pattern on the needlebook's spine.

Kit includes: All finishing materials, charts, diagrams, directions, fibers, needles and stork scissors.
