Jackie du Plessis
It's Fine-ally Finished
Jackie was born and raised in South Africa. In 1995 Jackie and her husband decided to move to the United States. Jackie is an art teacher by profession but being in a new country with new opportunities, she was privileged to explore and develop her love of needle art. Jackie began her journey into the needle arts at a small age with the guidance of many talented women who have passed on their love for needle art to her. She began shortly after moving to the US working in local Needlework shops and doing finishing of smalls and formed her company It's Fine-ally Finished in the year 2000. Since having her son in the year 2002 she has developed a desire to expand her talents into designing with the focus on finishing, and is tremendously fulfilled with passing on her knowledge to fellow stitchers and encourages them to finish projects.

This popular tradition of gifting chocolate at certain holidays adds nostalgia to our love for this tasty sweet. It invokes memories of loved ones and happy times. Some of these gifted objects are molded eggs and bunnies at Easter time, chocolate coins at Hanukkah and Santa Claus at Christmas and hearts on Valentine's Day. Keeping with this tradition you will find a few of these objects in this collection.
The entire piece is stitched with two colors of silk, a solid 100/3 AVS fiber and the other is a special hand dyed silk worked on 30ct chocolate brown linen. The storage case has a stitched exterior that showcases a variety of specialty stitches that play to the chocolate box theme and each one is different. Some of the stitches used are upright cross stitch, smyrna, tied upright cross stitch, elongated rice stitch, star and reversed lace wheel stitches. The stitched exterior case is finished with a warm caramel color taffeta silk. The pocket interior has a ribbon for function and embellishment. The stitched case wraps around a chocolate box that opens to reveal an area for chocolate covered strawberry emery, a thimble holder, a ribbon bar shaped like a chocolate bar and the ribbon fold. This "ribbon fold" fold is created using one length of 3" wide ribbon into two pocket sections and hand dyed wool is added for a needle page area. This celebration of chocolate would not be complete without a chocolate bunny, a tape measure, a kiss and an English toffee waxer keep.
Kit includes: All stitching and finishing supplies listed. Linen, silk, ribbon, fiber, tape measure, stuffing, wool, Skirtex, mylar and needles, nine pages of graphs and diagrams, seventeen pages of finishing instructions with colored pictures of step by step assembly.

The term "millefiori" is a combination of the Italian words "mille" meaning a thousand "fiori" for flowers. The word appeared in the 1849 Oxford Dictionary and today the term is associated with Venetian glassware.
Jackie's goal was to create a collection of needlework accessories sleep nicely in a silk lined hand woven Nantucket fixed handle basket. She fell in love with the floral Liberty of London lawn and knew it would be perfect to line a Nantucket basket. A wonderful rich aqua blue silk taffeta is used to bring out the aqua tones in this Liberty lawn.
Kit includes: Lady's companion - stitched top, inside and bottom panel, needle page (imported Japanese wool decorated with a tiny daisy, beaded bead fob), ribbon and twisted cord with Venetian and tiny beads, pincushion pillow (stitched and embellished with twisted cord, thimble/pyn doodle), stitched panel manipulated to hold pins and a thimble uses twisted cord with ribbons for embellishment, basket, taffeta and cotton lawn with ribbons. Kit includes all stitching supplies to complete the project.
Finishing techniques: used are: making a basket lining, finishing the Lady's companion, creating the storage wells, adding beaded feet and hardware closure; finishing the thimble/pyn doodle for thimble storage with coin cushion sides; finishing the pin cushion as a pin pillow; ribbon and twisted cord embellishing. The in class goal is to discuss and cover the Millefiori collection as well as the beaded ribbon fringe fob. Students who are able to bring their sewing machine to class have the opportunity to work on the lining of the basket. Additional scrimshaw are available to order.
