Textiles - Past and Present

Inez became interested in appraising to satisfy her love of needlework and textile research. She is an ANG certified appraiser and is working on her NAN Honors project researching Slovak and Eastern European textiles. She is passionate about researching and thinking about the role textiles play in our daily lives. Inez has authored articles on appraising and on Slovak textiles. She lives in Harwich, MA with her spouse and three Boston Terriers, Max, Me!Me! and Jenny, and considers herself very fortunate, indeed, to have made wonderful friendships with librarians, curators and textile enthusiasts as she carries out her research.

Class #107
LECTURE: Appraising — The Rules and The Tools

Teacher: Inez Giles, PhD
Max: 30 students (Min: 15 students)
Level: All
Description: Lecture

Price: $25.00
Scheduled: Thursday 12:00pm - 1:45pm

You've been watching Antiques Roadshow on PBS television for years and it's about time you became privy to the way an appraisal is completed. Inez will begin with a brief introduction to the rules appraisers must follow and with suggestions for what clients should look for in an appraisal service. This will set the stage for her to take you through the various steps of research as you hear about the specialized data bases that track auction sales and other pertinent tools of the trade. She will share her experiences as professional appraiser and tell about valuating needleart in today's market. So, what is Great-aunt Betty's Hardanger band sampler worth? How would an appraiser develop their opinion of value for her piece? This is your time to rest your weary stitching eyes and learn about another aspect of your favorite art. Register early because the lectures are always a sellout!
