Mary Ann’s 12 ½” x 12 ½ inch Square Sampler is a beautiful example of early 19th century samplers. Dated 1822 she uses motifs I’m sure you will recognize as this was a period when pattern books were widely used. It is unusual however in the fact that its Bible verse is from Habakkuk which is not usually a fist choice for a sampler. The colours are amazing in blues, greens, purple and brown. Although damaged at the corners the original is in very good condition. It is stitched on a 40 count even weave linen in antique white, and the majority is stitched in cross stitch over two threads, but there are places in both the verse and her name where the writing is stitched over one thread. The final result is, arguably, the prettiest sampler I have seen. Clean lines and spot motifs make it a joy to stitch and a pleasure to behold.
Kit includes: 40 count Antique White Linen, dominant colors of green, cream & blue silks, chart, instructions, Photo and stitch explanations.
Students should bring: Light and Magnification if needed with normal stitching supplies.
