Every piece of needlework was created for a purpose. It was made out of necessity, to show technique, as a gift, or just for fun. Every piece of needlework has a person who created it, either as a stitcher, a designer, or both. The Samplers with a Story series seeks to present the purpose and (if possible) the person behind the samplers and other antique needlework pieces that are featured. The Bristol orphanage samplers and Quaker samplers offer lots of clues to the purpose and person behind the needlework. Claudia Dutcher Kistler is a collector of both of these types of needlework. What she offers in her lectures is a fascinating hour where you will learn about needlework technique and history that also includes the stories behind the samplers she shares from her collection. These lectures are fun for the stitcher, the non stitcher, and anyone who wants to learn about samplers with a story.
