While Candy Scott has trained and practiced in the field of speech and language for forty years, she is self-taught in needlework. As a child, she was always making something with her hands, including knitting and needlepoint. Her first adult venture into needlework was in designing and hand-painting needlepoint canvasses. She taught her friend, Mary Olson, the technique and together they explored custom-painted canvasses. In 1997, they formed their company—The Workbasket, publishing their designs for cross stitch, needlepoint, and punch needle which are inspired by the styles, layouts, colors, and motives of antique samplers and frakturs. Candy’s designs often reflect a European influence, having lived in The Netherlands for fourteen years.
